Tomoya has married into his wife Maki's family and moved to her hometown. Despite being in an unfamiliar environment, he decides to participate in the local fighting festival for Maki's sake. On the day of the festival, Maki is full of enthusiasm, while Tomoya is not so keen. Reluctantly, he agrees to carry the portable shrine because Maki is so excited, but their differing attitudes and levels of enthusiasm lead to a serious fight with the village's young men, and Tomoya is beaten up by one of the men, Hosoda... Maki comes to see Tomoya, who is resting in the infirmary.
